Glossary
CSI divisions
The MasterFormat numbering system that organizes construction work into numbered divisions like 03 Concrete and 26 Electrical.

CSI divisions come from the Construction Specifications Institute’s MasterFormat. Every part of a building is filed under a numbered division — 03 Concrete, 05 Metals, 09 Finishes, 22 Plumbing, 26 Electrical, and so on — and every spec section carries that number.
Why estimators organize by division
- Spec books are already written that way.
- Subcontractors bid by division, so packages map cleanly to trades.
- Bid sheets subtotal by division, so the estimate rolls up the same way the work is bought.
In PreConstruct
The scope list, bid sheet, bid packages, buyout, and budget tracker are all organized by CSI division, so a line item keeps the same address from the first draft to the last invoice.
