Scope takeoff
Reading a plan set and spec book and writing out every item of work, usually organized by CSI division.

A scope takeoff (or scope of work list) is the written inventory of everything a project requires, taken off the drawings and specifications. It is different from a quantity takeoff, which measures how much of each item; scope answers what is in the job, quantity answers how much.
How estimators use it
- As the backbone of the bid sheet — every scope line becomes a priced line.
- To build bid packages, so each trade gets exactly its work.
- To level quotes, so exclusions are visible.
The slow part
Someone has to read the whole set. On a full commercial set that is hundreds of sheets plus a spec book, and the list has to be organized by division to be useful.
